Aves de mi jardín
La formación de un jardín, puede llegar a ser una experiencia muy especial. A través de ese acercamiento, se puede descubrir un mundo maravilloso que muchas veces nos pasa por desapercibido. Nuestra sensibilidad se afina cuando podemos aprender a valorar lo sencillo y lo bello. Las plantas, en su estado natural, con sus flores, frutos y semillas, conviven con muchas otras formas de vida. Es con amor a la vida y el respeto a la biodiversidad que se puede restaurar la naturaleza. Cada lugar del jardín se convierte en un nicho ecológico con plenitud y armonía.
Mi jardín, que tiene 23 años, se ubica al lado del nuevo parque del Itchimbía, cerca del centro colonial de Quito, Ecuador, apenas a 3 km. de la Plaza Grande. Prácticamente, dentro de la ciudad, logré formar un pequeño bosque que es un espacio insólito que causa sorpresa por su vitalidad.
Con esta presentación, quiero compartir las imágenes de los pájaros que he visto por aquí. Algunos de ellos nacieron en el lugar, mientras otros, son pasajeros o migratorios cuyo registro ha sido una novedad hasta para los especialistas. Se piensa que la ubicación de este jardín en el cerro del Itchimbía, es un lugar estratégico en las diversas rutas migratorias.
Posiblemente esta lista de las 33 especies que presento aquí, con un poco de paciencia, pueda ser ampliada en el futuro.

Birds from my Garden
The act of creating a garden can become a very special experience. As one goes about establishing the garden, a marvelous world is discovered that often passes us unnoticed. Our sensitivity is sharpened when we can learn and value that which is simple and beautiful. Plants, in their natural state, with their flowers, fruits and seeds, live together with many other forms of life. It is with a love for life and a respect for biodiversity that we can restore Nature. Every space in the garden is converted into an ecological niche with abundance and harmony.
My garden, which has existed for 23 years, is located next to the new Itchimbía Park near the colonial center of Quito, Ecuador, less than three kilometers from the Plaza Grande. Although it is practically in the center of the city, I managed to fashion a small forest that is an uncommon area that causes is surprising because of its vitality.
By way of this presentation, I would like to share the images of the birds that I have seen around here. Some of them were born in this wee forest, while others are passers-by or migratory birds whose presence has been a rarity, even for specialists. It is thought that the location of this garden in the hills of Itchimbía is a strategic place that is a part of the diverse migratory routes.
Possibly, this list of the 33 species that are represented here, with a bit of patience, can be enlarged in the future.
